about

Dedicated to my sister, Alyssa Rae Johns, who retreated from every snowball fight after approximately five seconds on the battlefield.

lyrics

When my sister and I were small
and the snow came down,
we would put our snowsuits on
and stake out our battleground

and say, "Let's have a snowball fight!"
Let's have a snowball fight.

We'd build forts we could hide behind.
They had peepholes so we could see
if it was time to lay down low
or unleash on the enemy

and have a snowball fight.
Have a snowball fight.

I would let 'er rip, it would hit her lip.
She would stagger back—
I'd wait for her attack.

I'd say, "Are you okay?"
She'd say "WAHHHHHHH!"
With tears in her eyes,
she would run inside.

So much for our snowball fight.
So much for our snowball fight.

I'd say, "I'm sorry I hit you in the face,"
and follow her as she ran to the door.
With tears freezing on her cheeks,
she'd say, "I don't wanna play with you anymore!

I'm done with our snowball fight."

But the next day we'd do it again
because kids have the shortest memories.
She'd take a snowball to the head
and fall down on her knees and say,

"My EAR! You hit my ear!"
She'd say, "I think I'm deaf! I can't hear myself whining!"

I'd say, "Sister stay, we're just starting to play.
You can let one fly, hit me in the eye.
Throw your biggest bomb, just don't tell Mom.
I'm still doing chores 'cos of yesterday's wars."

She'd cry and say,
"Have a GREAT snowball with YOURSELF!"

I had a great snowball fight with myself.

When she grew up she moved away
to a place where there is no snow.
She settled down in Arizona,
where there's nothing for a mean big brother to throw.

I won the battles, she won the war.
This much is clear.
Maybe next year when she comes for Christmas
I can hit her in the other ear.

We'll have a snowball fight.
We'll have a snowball fight.

Hit it.
